I have been asked by many people for more information on assembling kit guitars. These pictures were taken during the assembly of three different kits - all purchased from the C.F. Martin Guitarmaker’s Connection. There are other sources of kits. However, I have no personal experience with them. Frank Ford has said some kind things about the Stewart-MacDonald kits.

Don't take anything that you see or read here too seriously. There are always better ways to do things. In fact, I have rarely done anything the same way twice.

A few words of advise:

  • Always measure twice and cut once.
  • Always clamp everything together on a dry run before you apply glue to anything.
  • Keep your knives and chisels as sharp as you can. Dull edges are more dangerous then sharp.
  • Read everything about guitar construction that you can find.
  • Don't be afraid to ask questions.
